VICTORY: Methane standards restored
TAKE ACTION: Now is the time to push for stronger standards: [link removed]
***********************************************************
Dear Friend,
Yesterday, our advocacy paid off when Congress voted to restore a critical standard to cut methane pollution from the oil and gas industry.
With Trump’s methane rollback dealt with, the Environmental Protection Agency has begun the process to strengthen our methane protections. We need your help to tell the EPA that we need the strongest possible methane standards if we are to tackle the climate crisis and protect public health.
Strong methane standards are a critical tool in the fight against climate change, air pollution, and environmental injustice. Low-cost, effective technology that can reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas industry is widely available and could save lives, today and tomorrow. The EPA must include requirements that oil and gas operators implement this technology in its new standards.
After four years of constant attacks from the Trump administration and its allies in the oil industry, getting back to where we were during the Obama administration is a massive win. But the unfortunate truth is that the climate crisis didn’t take four years off. We must push for stronger standards that will cut methane pollution 65% by 2025 — the crisis is dire and adherence to the status quo will not get the job done.
The EPA’s process to update the methane standards is our moment to push for strong climate action, so we must stay engaged. Join us in urging the EPA to strengthen the standards before it's too late.
Sincerely,
Jessica Ennis
Legislative Director, Climate and Energy
