Dear Friends,

Today NRCAT joins human rights advocates around the world to commemorate the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. On June 26, 1987, the Convention Against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment or Punishment came into effect and nations of the world were put on notice that human rights enforcement must be a global moral imperative.

On this important day, we honor the leadership and resilience of survivors of torture working with NRCAT, including those who are leading campaigns to end the torture of solitary confinement in the U.S. We also mark this day by pledging to continue our work with our member faith organizations to end violence against African Americans, Asian Americans, Muslim Americans, and other targeted groups.

As an organization founded in 2006 to "end torture in U.S. policy, practice, and culture," our human rights work has never felt more urgent. I invite you to donate to NRCAT today and support our mission to end racial injustice with a demand of human rights for all.

Earlier this month, NRCAT joined other national organizations to launch a campaign led by torture survivors, faith leaders and secular advocates aimed at both the U.S. Congress and the Biden Administration. The campaign has proposed a Blueprint that would end use of solitary confinement by the federal Bureau of Prisons and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Your support of NRCAT today in honor of the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture allows us to continue our important work to stop the torture of everyone being held in federal prisons and immigrant detention.

Thank you for all you do,

Rev. Ron Stief
Executive Director
