At a time when state legislatures across the country are attempting to suppress voting rights, Nevada is working hard to strengthen our democracy and ensure that voting is more accessible and secure. A HUGE shoutout goes to the Let Nevadans Vote coalition (many of whom on the team are NALpistas!), which championed SIX priority bills relating to civic education in participating high schools, election reform, and expanding access to the ballot box for all eligible Nevadans. All six bills passed the Nevada Assembly and Senate and were signed into law by Governor Steve Sisolak! Let’s hear it for the Let Nevadans Vote coalition and Nevada!

Today, the Justice Department announced that it’s suing the state of Georgia over its new voting laws, alleging that they were “enacted with the purpose of denying or abridging the right of Black Georgians to vote.” These laws—which limit the use of ballot drop boxes, ban giving food or water to voters in line, and impose new voter ID requirements—have nothing to do with voter fraud and everything to do with disenfranchising Black voters. We stand with and support the New American and BIPOC elected officials in Georgia—and all across the country—who are combatting voter suppression at every turn and working hard to create a democracy where everyone can participate and thrive.

We know that our country and our democracy are stronger when everyone is included. That's why we need the Senate to bring back the For the People Act and work together to protect our democracy.

The For the People Act is a comprehensive piece of legislation that will transform the very foundation of our democracy. If passed, it would protect our freedom to vote, end partisan gerrymandering, and curtail the dominance of big money in politics.
