Governor Abbott Sets July 8 as the Special Session Date

On June 22nd, Gov. Greg Abbott announced July 8 as the Special Session Date.  Even though Abbott’s office did not specify what legislative priorities will be included, Texas Values supports protecting women from the unfair competition of biological males in women’s sports and protecting children from harmful gender transition procedures and treatments. These issues remain unresolved from the Legislature’s regular session and deserve to be included in a special session agenda.

Why You Should Consider Giving to Texas Values Before June 30!

June 30 marks the end of our Fiscal Year and is the final day for your donation to be doubled, up to $25,000!  Why give to Texas Values?  We have been very busy in the past fiscal year helping to pass values legislation and helping to stop the passage of bad legislation. Most notably, we helped with the passage of the Texas Heartbeat Act (SB 8) and the Freedom to Worship Act (HB 1239).

The Texas Heartbeat Act was sponsored by Sen. Bryan Hughes and Rep. Shelby Slawson and it prohibits abortions after the detection of a preborn child’s heartbeat.

The Freedom to Worship Act was sponsored by Texas Rep. Scott Sanford and Sen. Angela Paxton and it makes clear that a government agency or public official is prohibited from issuing an order that closes or has the effect of closing places of worship.

Gov. Abbott also signed HB 1280, a pro-life trigger law that would end abortion in Texas thirty days after Roe v. Wade is overturned or if there was another ruling that would recognize the rights of states to prohibit abortion.

Additionally, Texas Values supported other important religious freedom and life legislation that headed to the governor’s desk including HB 525 by Rep. Matt Shaheen to protect and designate religious organizations as “essential” in addition to churches, SJR 27, a constitutional amendment proposed by Sen. Kelly Hancock and Rep. Jeff Leach to protect places of worship and religious activities from government restrictions.
