Hi John. Did you see our email last week? Our oceans support our way of life, but they’re in trouble due to global warming. SEEC PAC members aren’t waiting around though, they’ve been introducing legislation that will spur needed change to protect our oceans: *
Rep.
Suzanne
Bonamici
has
proposed
a
plan
that
includes
reducing
diesel
pollution
from
our
ships,
restoring
coastal
wetlands,
and
boosting
marine-driven
renewable
energy.
*
Rep.
Derek
Kilmer’s
Ocean
Acidification
Innovation
Act
would
combat
rapid
ocean
acidification
due
to
dangerous
levels
of
carbon
emissions.

Subject: We can’t let our oceans die

Team,

Covering more than 70% of the Earth’s surface, our planet’s oceans are crucial to our way of life. They produce enormous amounts of our food, provide millions of jobs, and help us combat climate change.

Too often the health of our oceans is ignored and pushed to the side. But if the health of our oceans continues to decline, it will devastate our planet. We rely on so many benefits that oceans provide, including: *
More
than
$282
billion
in
goods
and
services
along
with
three
million
jobs
in
the
U.S
alone.
*
The
production
of
over
half
of
the
world’s
oxygen
and
the
absorption
of
50
times
more
carbon
dioxide
than
our
atmosphere.
*
Transportation
for
seventy-six
percent
of
all
U.S.
trade.
*
Medicinal
products,
including
ingredients
that
help
fight
cancer,
arthritis,
Alzheimer's
disease,
and
heart
disease.

We need to step up to the plate and make sure that our oceans are healthy for future generations. Will you sign our petition today to call on Congress to pass greater protections for oceans? [[link removed]]

The consequences of allowing the health of our oceans to decline would be dire. If our oceans collapse, we risk: *
Skyrocketing
prices

If
shipping
lanes
are
compromised
in
our
oceans,
businesses
all
over
the
world
would
see
their
infrastructure
crippled.
This
would
lead
to
rising
prices
for
all
kinds
of
goods.
*
Collapsing
food
chains

We’ve
already
seen
many
species
become
endangered
or
be
forced
to
migrate
away
from
their
natural
habitat
due
to
warming
oceans.
Further
harm
would
mean
an
eventual
full-scale
collapse
of
food
chains
that
we
rely
upon,
including
the
collapse
of
the
industries
and
jobs
that
rely
on
marine
life.
*
More
harm
to
the
climate

Plants
and
animals
in
our
ocean
suck
massive
amounts
of
carbon
dioxide
out
of
our
atmosphere.
If
they
die
out,
it
would
only
make
matters
worse,
causing
more
carbon
to
be
dispersed
into
our
atmosphere
and
accelerating
global
warming.

We have to continue pushing hard to protect the wildlife and ecosystems in our oceans that we rely on. Sign on today to let Congress know we demand action now to protect our oceans. [[link removed]]
