John,

Last night, hundreds of RepresentUs members joined me to talk about what happened this week with the For the People Act, and where we go from here.

As we talked about the path ahead, one thing became abundantly clear to me: With members like you at the front of this fight, we’re not going to lose.

If you missed the call, or want to watch it again, click here for the recording.

Here’s the short version: The Senate refused to even discuss the For the People Act. This filibuster is appalling (71% of Americans want to see this bill passed!), but it wasn’t unexpected, and it certainly doesn’t mark the end of our fight. In fact, the path to victory is wider now than we’ve seen all year.

Why? Just two weeks ago, Senator Manchin was vocally opposed to the For the People Act – but thanks to pressure from members like you, he changed his mind and voted to move the Act forward in the Senate.

This is proof positive that our campaign is working – and we can’t let off the gas. In order to win, we have to accomplish two things:

  1. Secure majority support in the Senate for a compromise For the People Act, and
  2. Convince Senator Manchin and a handful of other key senators that democracy is more important than the filibuster.

I’m not saying this is going to be easy, but I’m absolutely saying that this is doable. And we have to do it.

To pull this off, we need to keep up the public drum beat of support for the For the People Act. Democracy can’t wait, and the Senate must pass the bill by any means necessary – full stop.

To that end, here are five ways you can help win this fight:

  1. Join a phonebank on Tuesday, June 29th at 5:30pm ET to call voters in West Virginia and connect them with Senator Manchin.
  2. Join the next MemeTeam Training on Thursday, July 8th at 7:00pm ET to reach your network on social media and make sure they are educated and taking action.
  3. Get in the newspapers! Join a Letter to the Editor Workshop on Wednesday, June 30th at 6:00pm ET to spread the word and increase the pressure.
  4. Talk about anti-corruption and the For the People Act at your July 4th gatherings to spread the word in person and get more people into the fight. What’s more patriotic than that?
  5. Make a donation to fund the fight against corruption, and keep up the pressure on key senators like Joe Manchin.

Like my colleague James said on the call last night: “Talk is cheap. Victory requires action!” Let’s all take action together, link arms and fight like hell to pass the For the People Act. Our democracy depends on it.

Thank you,
