Hi — hours ago, the state Senate passed a massive attack on our freedom to vote.

This bill is terrifying. It will make it harder for people to register to vote, to vote by mail, and even to vote IN PERSON.

Over the last few months, we've seen Republican state lawmakers attack our democracy from every angle — from leading buses to the insurrection on January 6 to petitioning the U.S. Supreme Court to throw out all ballots cast by mail in 2020.

They couldn’t win the presidential election, so instead, they are trying to change the rules to favor voters in one political party and keep young people, people of color, and women from voting.

Governor Wolf has pledged to veto these attacks, but after he does, we expect lawmakers to try to pass their agenda by amending the constitution. That’s why we have to fight back now. If we can hold them accountable, we can create a huge backlash and get them to back down.

Friend, the number one way you can help is by becoming a member — it only takes $5.

At the heart of their strategy are attacks meant to disenfranchise Black and Brown voters. One provision requires voters to show an ID, which may sound reasonable. However, people of color are more than twice as likely to lack an ID compared to white people. [1]

These attacks are real, and could become law even if Governor Wolf vetoes them, so here’s our plan.

We’re going to publicly hold lawmakers accountable all summer to keep the pressure on in anticipation of a backdoor constitutional amendment strategy. We’re going to send thousands of texts and emails to our members urging them to keep advocating for a fully functioning, free democracy. And, we’re working hand in hand with allies to broaden our democracy, make it easier for people to make their voices heard, and give local election officials the support they need to conduct our elections safely and fairly.

There’s no way we can sit out this fight — but we’re also fighting attempts to block Pennsylvania from becoming a leader in the clean energy economy at the same time — two massive efforts that will drain our resources unless we have members from all corners of the state pitching in.
Friend, can I count on you to become a member for only $5?
