Hello Greens and Happy Pride Month!
It's warming up around the country so it is a great time to be
seen being Green. Party members are getting out into their
neighborhoods collecting petition signatures for their Candidates.
Some of us are marching proudly with our banners and tabling at the
annual Pride Parades and Puerto Rican Day parades. Summer
is usually a busy time for Green Party activists. Here is a sample of
what our candidates and organizers have been up to. - Starlene

Just as GreenLine was ready for
distribution we received this sad news: "GPUS recognizes the passing
of comrade Bruce Dixon of the Georgia Green Party and Black Agenda
Report. We ask that you keep Bruce and his family in your thoughts
this weekend."
The Green Party of Texas (GPTX)
enjoyed a tremendous victory for ballot access! Join the Green Party
of the United States in this celebration by helping us to achieve
urgent and critical ballot access victories in other key states
today.
On Monday, Texas Gov. Abbott signed HB2504 into law. The new law
makes it easier for political parties to retain ballot access, which
reduces the vote test from 5% to 2% of any statewide race in any of
the last five elections.
In 2016, GPTX candidate for Railroad
Commission, Martina Salinas won over
287,000 votes. Because of Salinas’ strong campaign, Green Party of
Texas will now be guaranteed ballot access through 2026!
It was business as usual on June 28,
1969 when the police launched yet another raid on a gay bar in New
York City, but this time, the police wagons were late. The Stonewall
Inn was a place patronized by drag queens, trans men, trans women, and
prostitutes, and where homeless trans/bi/lesbian/gay youth loitered.
Their very existence was against the law. The sight of arrested
patrons waiting on the sidewalk drew a crowd of pissed off LGBTQIA
community members, and sparks (and the most famous "brick" in history)
flew.
The cops involved survived the night, but the riots lasted for days
and ignited a worldwide movement. Within two years, there were LGBTQIA
organizations in major cities throughout the U.S. and around the
planet. Now same-sex marriage is legal here in the U.S. due to a
Supreme Court ruling, but we can still be fired for getting married in
many states, and many of us, especially queer and trans people of
color, risk our lives and lose them just by walking down the street.
On top of that, there's a steady drumbeat of pressure from within our
own LGBTQIA communities, as well as the larger society, to
"mainstream" ourselves in pursuit of equal rights.
Members of the LGBTQIA community exist in every category of
humanity. No race, no ethnicity, no class, no geographic location is
unrepresented among our ranks. We have every ability and disability.
We are of every age. We have much to celebrate over these past 50
years and much more yet to accomplish.

JUN 28, 2019 Supreme
Court Majority says they can’t fix gerrymandering; Greens say the
people can The Green Party (GPUS) opposes yesterday's 5-4
Supreme Court decision in Rucho v. Common Cause, in which the majority
opinion ruled that partisan gerrymandering presents issues "beyond the
reach of the federal courts." Instead of getting mired in the
back-and-forth politics of gerrymandering, the GPUS calls for a system
of true voter representation--a proportional voting system that
virtually eliminates the possibility of gerrymandering instead of
countering its effects on one party or another. "The Supreme Court
ruling was unquestionably shameful in its reasoning," said Tony Ndege,
Green Party. Co-chair of the Green Party of North Carolina.
"Gerrymandering is fundamental to a two-party, winner-take-all system
that favors the parties of the rich. That system itself is
anti-democratic because the major parties use it to take voters for
granted with no intent to represent them in government, all the while
paying fealty to their corporate bosses." CONTINUE

Party demands the United States follow the U.N. protocol regarding the
humanitarian treatment of migrants; asserts that humanitarian
assistance to migrants is not a crime. The Green Party of
the United States, expressing outrage over deplorable and inhumane
conditions in migrant camps, demands the U.S. government follow U.N.
protocols regarding the humanitarian treatment of migrants and
refugees, and further condemns the criminalization of humanitarian
assistance to migrants. Green leaders are especially dismayed over
reports of inhumane conditions in which children are being held.
Children seeking refuge are being separated from their families,
placed into concentration camps and denied basic supplies. Horrific
conditions have led to the deaths of at least six children since the
beginning of this year. Children are suffering due to inadequate food,
water and sanitation and extreme temperatures in conditions described
by one physician as “torture facilities.” John Sanders, acting
commission of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, said today that he
will resign on July 5. CONTINUE

Leaders Call For Restraint And Peaceful Resolution To Escalating
Tension In Iran. The Green Party is calling for a
peaceful resolution to tensions with Iran as a series of recent events
has unfolded into an escalating crisis between the two countries. A
June 13th attack on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman has been
blamed on Iran by the U.S., as well as allies and critics. On June
19th, Iranian forces downed an unarmed U.S. Navy RQ-4 Global Hawk spy
drone over the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that it had traveled into
Iranian air space. CONTINUE

Party: Arrest and Conviction of Green Party activist, Cheri Honkala,
is an attack on 1st Amendment rights Greens Deplore Conviction of Cheri Honkala as attack on
First Amendment rights Green Party leaders responded to yesterday's
ruling in the case of United States vs. Honkala with strong words of
condemnation for government officials involved and strong support for
Honkala. On June 10, 2019, a federal court in Washington, D.C., issued
a guilty verdict in the case, finding former Green Party Vice
Presidential candidate Cheri Honkala guilty of charges of trespassing.
Honkala is an internationally-known activist and founder of the Poor

TUCSON, Az., June 14, 2019 — On
Wednesday the Green Party of Pima County (GPPC) filed a lawsuit
against the City of Tucson for depriving the party of ballot status in
the upcoming elections on November 5, 2019. The Green Party is legally
entitled to representation in the 2019 election but has been left off
the roles and will not be on the ballot if the City has its way. The
City of Tucson has attempted to unlawfully suppress the voice of the
Green Party of Pima County and deprive 262,000 registered voters in
Tucson from hearing and voting for Green Party solutions to the
political and economic challenges facing our community. CONTINUE

Ranked
Choice Voting May Come to New York City ... But Not for
Everyone
The Green Party of New York (GPNY)
said last night's vote on a ballot measure to introduce ranked-choice
voting (RCV) for New York City municipal primaries and special
elections was disappointing, as commissioners voted 8-6 against
applying RCV to general elections. Party officers praised the six
commissioners, including Democrat Sal Albanese and Republican Stephen
J. Fiala, who made a strong case for RCV in all municipal elections
for New York City voters. CONTINUE
