As the seasons change and summer begins we are excited to share some inspiring victories from our members who are winning Just Transitions in their own communities. From Oregon to Washington, D.C.- where this coming Wednesday we'll demand Biden pass a strong climate justice infrastructure bill and stop fossil fuel projects- frontline environmental justice communities are demanding more and winning! This Wed, June 30th, the Indigenous Environmental Network (IEN,) other CJA members and climate justice activists are heading to Washington, D.C. to ensure the voices of those most impacted from the climate crisis are heard. From Line 3 in Minnesota to the Mountain Valley Pipeline, our communities are saying no to the extraction of our lands, and calling on Biden to stop approving fossil fuel projects and declare a climate emergency. The Energy Affordability Act (HB 2475) recently passed in the Oregon Senate thanks to the hard work of Oregon Just Transition Alliance and others in their broad coalition who have been organizing for energy democracy throughout the state! Once the Governor signs this bill into law, the Public Utility Commission will be able to create rate structures to reduce energy costs for low-income Oregonians. Additionally, organizations representing environmental justice communities will be supported to participate in energy decision making at the Public Utility Commission. Congrats to communities in Oregon on passing such a historic bill!
