Dear John,
As the seasons change and summer begins we are excited to share some
inspiring victories from our members who are winning Just Transitions in
their own communities. From Oregon to Washington, D.C.- where this coming
Wednesday we'll demand Biden pass a strong climate justice infrastructure
bill and stop fossil fuel projects- frontline environmental justice
communities are demanding more and winning! We hope you'll enjoy reading
about them in this month's edition of Frontline Temp Check.
CHANGE THE RULES: CLIMATE JUSTICE ACTIVISTS HEAD TO WHITE HOUSE, DEMAND
AN END TO FOSSIL FUEL PROJECTS & BOLD CLIMATE JUSTICE RECOVERY PACKAGE
This Wed, June 30th, the Indigenous Environmental Network (IEN,) other CJA
members and climate justice activists are heading to Washington, D.C. to
ensure the voices of those most impacted from the climate crisis are heard.
From Line 3 [4] in Minnesota to the Mountain Valley Pipeline, our
communities are saying no to the extraction of our lands, and calling on
Biden to stop approving fossil fuel projects and declare a climate
emergency. You can learn more, sign up to support climate justice, and join
us in Washington DC here! [5]
THIS MONTH, CJA MEMBERS WORKED TIRELESSLY TO...
OREGON JUST TRANSITION ALLIANCE WINS ENERGY DEMOCRACY ACROSS THE
STATE
The Energy Affordability Act (HB 2475) recently passed in the Oregon Senate
thanks to the hard work of Oregon Just Transition Alliance and others in
their broad coalition who have been organizing for energy democracy
throughout the state! Once the Governor signs this bill into law, the
Public Utility Commission will be able to create rate structures to reduce
energy costs for low-income Oregonians. Additionally, organizations
representing environmental justice communities will be supported to
participate in energy decision making at the Public Utility Commission.
Congrats to communities in Oregon on passing such a historic bill!
REINVEST IN OUR POWER'S 5TH ANNUAL JUST TRANSITION FINANCE TRAINING!
The 5th Annual Just Transition Finance training went digital and it was a
huge success! Our 6-day training brought together CJA members from across
the country interested in reimagining their relationships to money, loan
funds, and learning about cooperatives. Creating mutual support and skills
that can be used to sustain cooperative projects in local communities.
During the training five cooperative projects received direct peer support
including:
* Hierbas Ancestrales, an herbal CSA - Farm Workers Association of Florida
[6]
* Numa’lo, a zero-waste refinery - Micronesia Climate Change Alliance
[7]
* KI Construction, a community-based construction company - Kheprw
Institute [8]
* TinyHomes EcoVillage an affordable, intentional community - Richmond
Land [9]
* An exploratory process for a New Economy Coalition [10] Loan Fund
These are part of the essential building blocks for creating the visionary
regenerative economies we need. Stay tuned for more on building towards
what our communities needs and ways you can support! Learn more about
