John — Did you hear? President Biden just announced yesterday that he reached a bipartisan deal on infrastructure. But this bill leaves out the kind of serious funding and policies we need for major climate change related initiatives.
Here’s what the strategy looks like, John: Joe Biden wants to pass an initial infrastructure bill that covers “traditional” priorities like roads, bridges, and broadband internet. But he’s saying that a bipartisan bill must be paired with a larger bill passed via reconciliation that includes additional priorities like climate initiatives.
We do not oppose this two-track strategy — it makes sense! But we need to make sure that the climate focused bill happens, and that it includes robust climate, clean energy and environmental justice priorities. We can’t just pass the slimmed-down first bill and then forget about climate.
That’s why SEEC members will be fighting in Congress to make sure that the Biden Administration and Congressional Leadership know that a major infrastructure deal must include the passage of a bill with our climate priorities. Will you pitch in today to help support them?
