I’m emailing you again with more bad and frustrating news about the Postal Service. A Washington Post analysis has revealed major anticipated slowdowns under Donald Trump’s hand-picked Postmaster General, and Republican megadonor, Louis DeJoy.

DeJoy’s disastrous 10-year plan for the Post Office represents the largest rollback of consumer mail services in a generation, with California and many other large states subject to disproportionate delays as a result of DeJoy’s cost-cutting.

This plan has a human cost. Veterans, the elderly, the homebound, individuals with disabilities, small businesses — everyone who relies on the Postal Service to deliver their medical supplies, mail to loved ones, and other essential items will suffer.

And there is a political cost, as well: 46% of voters participated by absentee or mail-in ballot in the 2020 election. And now, a Trump megadonor is doing everything he can to sabotage the Postal Service.

That’s not a coincidence — the sabotage of the Postal Service has been just as intentional as the politicization of Donald Trump’s Justice Department. These bedrock institutions of our democracy will take years to fully recover from the damage. And they are still extraordinarily fragile.

Look, it’s clear that we need DeJoy gone. But I have another concern — what this means for the 2022 midterm elections. Because Republicans are going to do and spend whatever they can to take back power, and they have an ally in the Postmaster General.

With our FEC deadline just 5 days away, we can’t afford to let Republicans outraise us if we’re going to keep our House and Senate majorities, especially if it means we’re up against longer delays in mail-in and absentee ballot deliveries.

I’m personally asking: Will you contribute $10, $25, or whatever you can afford right now before our FEC deadline? We need to post a big number to show National Republicans that we won’t back down in 2022, and that we’re serious about turning out historic numbers of voters – no matter the obstacles they throw in our way.
