Friend, We want to thank everyone for their time, dedication and continued support of the #WeAreEssential Fast for Freedom. Over 55 fasters from across the country have come to Washington D.C. to pray, share their stories, and meet with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to urge Congress to include citizenship for essential workers and their families, dreamers, and TPS holders in the jobs and infrastructure reconciliation package. Each participant in the fast has sacrificed one of the most essential basic needs of life in order to impress upon lawmakers that now is the time to fully include all immigrants. Next week, we are hosting a #WeAreEssential Fast for Freedom Faith Week from June 28 - July 1: Monday, June 28 - Digital Storytelling Action: We will share stories of fasters on our social media pages and encourage others to share and promote their stories on their platforms. Tuesday, June 29 - Contact Your Members of Congress: We will call and email our Members of Congress about the need for a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. Last week, we were thankful to meet with Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) and Rep. Joe Neguse (D-CO) to discuss our actions and drive home the importance of passing a pathway to citizenship this summer. Wednesday, June 30 - Fast Forward for Citizenship, from 12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. ET in Washington, D.C. We will hear experiences and reflections of the fasters, receive updates on the reconciliation process, and prepare for next steps in the journey toward citizenship for all 11 million undocumented immigrants. The event will take place inside the church sanctuary of the Lutheran Church of the Reformation, 212 East Capitol Street NE, and all participants are required to wear a mask.
