Three Times Olympic Track and Field Qualifiers Celebrated the Role of Family
By: Kirsten Hochstetler
Working for a family organization I’ve developed the keen ability to discover a story in the news that impacts families. It’s as if I have a new sense that makes my ears perk up at the mention of the word.
But this weekend, I didn’t have to try at all. Even someone without this odd skill of mine would have seen the theme of family play out at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
As a former collegiate cross-country and track runner, my love for running and the running community remains strong. I still follow all kinds of races and runners, whether it’s collegiate track and field events, professional marathoners, or a competitive high school race – to me it’s all entertaining and inspiring.
While some may say it’s less exciting than other sports, I’m on the edge of my seat watching competitors battle for every inch of a race. And I’m amazed watching people fine tune the human body to accomplish things that have never been done before.
In between tending to my own family, this weekend I sat down to watch a few races. So, imagine my delight when I began to see these top competitors acknowledge their families.

Loudoun County School Board in Uproar Again
By: Jeff Johnston
A raucous Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) board meeting, packed with parents and students lined up to speak about the district’s promotion of Critical Race Theory (CRT) and transgenderism, ended with school board members shutting down comments and ending the public meeting.
But parents and students remained in the building, first singing the national anthem, then continuing to testify – without the board being present. A school board member finally declared the meeting “an unlawful assembly,” and Loudoun deputies eventually cleared the room and arrested two individuals.
Which brings up an important question: Do school board members have the authority to label a gathering “an unlawful assembly”?

press conference at Three Oaks Middle School in Fort Myers.
During the press conference, Gov. DeSantis said the bill tasks the Florida Department of Education with developing an integrated civics curriculum.
The governor said the bill also, “expands our previous efforts in civics to add a requirement for the high school government class that students receive instruction on the evils of communism and totalitarian ideologies.”

Supreme Court Decision in ‘Profane Cheerleader’ Case Valuable for Religious Freedom, Say Legal Experts
By: Bruce Hausknecht
First Amendment free speech cases that reach the U.S. Supreme Court are never about inoffensive words, it seems. While individuals, businesses or organizations may try to shut down speech that offends them, the legal situation changes drastically when the government attempts to do so, and we should appreciate it when the courts step in and remind us what the First Amendment is designed for.
This week the Supreme Court

decided an important free speech case involving a public high school cheerleader in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania. The facts in this case — like

other free speech cases involving students — don’t paint the cheerleader in a sympathetic light. B. L., as the court’s opinion designates her because she is a minor, tried out for a varsity cheerleading position as well as a spot on her school’s softball team. When she only made the junior varsity squad and was also equally disappointed in her lack of success in her softball tryout, she vented on social media.

The Death of Common Sense
By: Paul Batura
Even a casual observer of today’s culture would have to acknowledge that common sense isn’t so common after all. The death of critical thinking is a very real phenomenon these days. “Group think” is all the rage — the worldly philosophies of a few shaping the opinions and actions of the masses.
Ask no questions — just blindly nod, get in line and follow like sheep.
Increasingly, many are afraid to speak up. They don’t want to lose their jobs, their pensions or the relative peace they enjoy, so they stuff it — and lose their joy instead.
Cancel culture is real. There are names and ruined lives to prove it. In fact, even asking a question can put a bullseye on your back.
