In 2015, Washington voters approved an initiative to make buying, selling, and trading animal parts and products from endangered species a crime.

The Washington Animal Trafficking Act (WATA) is protecting subspecies of 10 of the world’s most illegally traded animals, including elephants, tigers, lions, rhinos, marine turtles, and sharks.

Last month, my team successfully defeated an attempt to declare this groundbreaking law unconstitutional. But we can expect more challenges to WATA from those seeking to profit from animal trafficking.

Will you sign our petition today denouncing profiting from animal trafficking? We must make sure that this critical law is upheld so wildlife can be protected now and into the future.

My environmental protection team works hard to enforce this law. We won the first conviction in state history under WATA. That conviction sent a strong message to animal traffickers that this type of illegal trading will not be tolerated.

The only way we can protect endangered wildlife and end this cruel practice is to have strong laws and consequences for those who disobey them.

Unfortunately, those who profit from animal trafficking want to make it possible for this practice to continue. We can’t let that happen.

Please join us by signing our petition today. We need to stay vigilant against any attempt to undermine this important safeguard against animal trafficking.
