Common Dreams Home Page

Friend,

Over the past week, the most popular story on the Common Dreams website was about a nonviolent sit-in at Joe Manchin’s West Virginia offices. They were protesting him for abetting GOP voter suppression.

But the corporate media almost totally ignored the story.

The #2 most popular story was about calls by progressive activists to expand the Supreme Court in response to Mitch McConnell’s pledge to once again block any Supreme Court nominee if Republicans win control of the Senate.

The corporate media treats court expansion like it’s some kind of fringe wing-nut fantasy.

And no issue got more coverage this week on the pages of Common Dreams than the climate emergency—the existential threat to humanity that ought to be front-page news and lead every TV newscast every day of the year.

The corporate media is driven by one thing: profit. Their mindless pursuit of more clicks and higher ratings to drive ad revenue—while protecting the interests of their billionaire owners—is what put Donald Trump’s wild conspiracy theories on the front page while the planet burns and democracy fails right before our eyes.

Common Dreams is different. Every day, we cover stories they won’t, focusing our news team on the biggest threats to humanity and lifting up the voices that are silenced by the corporate media.

For more than 20 years, we’ve been your progressive news source, funded by donations from readers. But since Donald Trump left office, our readership and donations are down, so it’s crucial that we meet our Mid-Year Campaign goal by the end of June. Please chip in whatever you can today.

We only exist because of readers like you.
