2X Match!

NRDC Action Fund Activist:

In Pittsburgh, unemployment is at 8.4 percent. The city's aging infrastructure is crumbling, kids are drinking lead-contaminated water, and decades of toxic air pollution have put communities at greater risk of conditions like asthma, heart disease, and lung disease.

But it's not just Pittsburgh. In communities across America, many people are out of work, infrastructure is falling into greater disrepair, millions of people lack access to safe drinking water, climate change's impacts are worsening, and toxic fossil fuel pollution is choking the air. And these communities are disproportionately low-income, Black, brown, and Indigenous.

Yesterday, President Biden announced a compromise infrastructure deal. The framework is a modest step in the right direction, but it's not nearly enough. Congress must finish the job by passing Biden's full American Jobs Plan, which will drive an equitable recovery with strong action on climate change, clean energy, and job creation.

So despite this new legislative package, we will continue to escalate our all-out campaign to push Congress to pass an American Jobs Plan that goes even further with infrastructure investments and creates millions of new, high-quality clean energy jobs across the country in the process.

We will keep pushing for a plan that will turbocharge the transition away from dirty, climate-destroying fossil fuels by expanding wind and solar power and funding energy efficiency upgrades to homes and buildings ... help expand electric vehicles and low-carbon transit ... protect communities from toxic pollution ... and ensure that every community has access to clean, lead-free drinking water.

But we're up against strong opposition in Congress — and we have just a narrow window of time with pro-environment majorities in both the House and the Senate, which will not be guaranteed after the 2022 midterm elections.

That means we need to pass the full American Jobs Plan THIS YEAR, and we're going to need all the help we can get. Can you pitch in?

Please, donate to the NRDC Action Fund before our June 30 deadline. All gifts will be MATCHED, $1-for-$1, up to $100,000 — doubling your impact to help pass this desperately needed legislation for our climate and our future!

We've still got our work cut out for us. Some lawmakers, led by Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy, are doing everything they can to stop the American Jobs Plan.

That's why the NRDC Action Fund is ramping up our largest-EVER grassroots advocacy and organizing push to rally support for the American Jobs Plan. And in the weeks and months ahead, we'll be going all out to:

  • Mobilize people from coast to coast to email and call Congress and the White House in support of the American Jobs Plan
  • Launch an unprecedented, large-scale digital organizing effort aimed at passing the plan
  • Make the case for the plan in local and national media outlets
  • Run a targeted digital ad campaign to pressure members of Congress whose votes are especially critical to making the plan a reality
  • Meet with members of Congress and their staff on Capitol Hill and urge them to do right by their constituents by passing this bill

And that's just a start — but we can't do this all without your support. Please, donate before our deadline on June 30 and DOUBLE your impact at this pivotal moment for our climate, our communities, and our clean energy future.

Passing the American Jobs Plan is key to making good on Biden's pledge to cut the U.S. carbon footprint in half by 2030 and stop adding carbon pollution to the atmosphere altogether by 2050 — which is what science tells us we must do in order to avert the worst impacts of the climate crisis.

Our climate can't wait. Our communities can't wait. So we must do everything we can to make sure Congress doesn't wait either.

Will you donate now? All gifts made by June 30 will be MATCHED $1-for-$1, up to $100,000.

Thanks so much for your support.

Sincerely,
Kevin
