Every single Republican senator voted against protecting the constitutional right of all Americans to cast a ballot. This week, they filibustered even debating the For the People Act.
Democracy survives only if we vote. It's Congress' job to secure our elections and empower Americans to exercise their right to vote. And this week showed us that if we're going to make it easier -- not harder -- to vote in this country, we need to keep and grow our Democratic Senate majority.
I spoke on the Senate floor about how our democracy is stronger when more people vote. The federal government has an important role in ensuring that every American can vote -- we passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 -- and we will not give up on enacting the crucial reforms in the For the People Act.
