John, In a time when people risked infection to cast a vote or buy basic necessities, the United States Postal Service provided a safe and affordable way of keeping our lives and our democracy on track. But the Postal Service faces an existential threat: Trump-appointed Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. DeJoy is riddled with major conflicts of interest -- he owns at least a $30 million stake in a USPS contractor and as much as $100,000 in Amazon stock options. He acted swiftly to undercut the Postal Service after taking office, ordering multiple policies to deliberately slow the mail. Recently, DeJoy introduced a sweeping plan that will reduce post office hours, increase postage prices and slow down mail delivery. We can save the USPS. But first, DeJoy must be removed. Sign the petition to President Biden: Remove DeJoy as Postmaster General. The Postal Board of Governors oversees the Postmaster General. They are in charge of all policies and practices for the postal service. The board currently has three openings for new members that can immediately address USPS concerns. President Biden announced three new appointments to the USPS Board of Governors -- all great selections and all have been confirmed. But even this might not be enough to resolve the issues DeJoy has created. Sitting board members have expressed hesitancy in firing DeJoy, so we must ensure we have a board that will work towards restoring the USPS. One sitting board member, Ron Bloom, has served on the Board of Governors since August 2019, appointed by Trump to serve the remainder of a seven-year term that expired on December 8, 2020. He is currently in a hold-over year and can be replaced by Biden. We must demand that President Biden immediately replace Bloom so we can get to work fixing the USPS. Tell President Biden: Replace Ron Bloom on the USPS Board of Governors and fire Louis DeJoy! In solidarity, Free Speech For People |
