BREAKING NEWS:
Federal Judge Overturns California’s 32-Year Assault Weapons Ban; likens weapons to Swiss Army knives.

I’m not going to mince words here: I am disgusted and enraged by this ruling. And frankly, I’m terrified for the next time innocent lives are destroyed with an assault rifle – because I know too well what it's like to live with the grief that comes after this kind of tragedy.
|
My daughter, Jaime, was one of 13 children and three teachers killed when a gunman, armed with an AR-15 assault rifle, entered Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2019. Jaime was on the third floor that day, and if the weapon used in this rampage was a Swiss Army knife – not a weapon of war designed to kill as many people as possible, as quickly as possible – then she would still be here today.

Jaime will be 14 forever. My son, Jesse, survived the shooting and will live with the permanent scars of hearing his sister get shot – a single shot that severed my daughter’s spinal cord. I have to hope my daughter died instantly, otherwise, that means she suffered. I am a father who is fighting to honor his daughter’s murder with action, and I need your help now more than ever.

Banning assault weapons keeps Americans safe and saves lives – and this ruling – riddled with gun-lobby created lies – means we have to work harder than ever to do it. That’s why I’m personally asking: Will you add your name to our petition to demand an assault weapons ban and help us show Congress that this is what the majority of Americans want? Please – we need 130 more names before our midnight deadline and I’m still missing your response.

No other family should face the tragedy that mine has. I have dedicated my life to fighting gun violence in honor of Jaime and the other children who have been stolen from us too soon. I hope that you will join me in this fight, too, John.

Thank you.
