Presidential debates MUST cover abortion rights
Right now, we have a president and vice president who have spent years trying to cut off access to health care. We have a Supreme Court majority that is primed to gut abortion rights. And we have state lawmakers who are hell-bent on banning abortion and shutting down reproductive health centers.

But if you watched the last two Democratic presidential debates, you wouldn't know a thing about any of that. You wouldn't know where a single candidate stands, or how they plan to protect access to safe and legal abortion. You wouldn't know, because the moderators didn't bother to ask.

That has to change. We're joining All* Above All Action Fund to tell the moderators of the next Democratic presidential debate to ask about abortion. Click here to send a message, or simply tweet directly at the moderators:
Hey @AndersonCooper @ErinBurnett @MarcLacey, abortion bans are dangerous for people's health. I want to know where Dem candidates stand on abortion access. At the next #DemDebate, #AskAboutAbortion.
.@AndersonCooper @ErinBurnett @MarcLacey, how will candidates protect abortion access if the Supreme Court restricts our rights even more? At the next #DemDebate, ask them about abortion & their plans to protect our rights. #AskAboutAbortion
Hey @AndersonCooper @ErinBurnett @MarcLacey, health care is a top issue for voters — and abortion is health care. But there wasn't a single question asked about abortion or reproductive health care at the last two debates. That needs to change. #DemDebate #AskAboutAbortion
(Not on Twitter? Submit your question for the moderators here to make sure they ask abortion abortion in the next debate.)

#AskAboutAbortion isn't a new thing — reproductive justice leaders have been using it for years to highlight candidates' plans to protect and expand abortion access.

The next president will have a profound influence on the future of abortion access in this country. The judges they appoint, the bills they sign, the policies they enforce — we'll be feeling the impact for years to come. Voters deserve to know how the presidential candidates plan to use that power, and who we can trust to defend and expand access to abortion.

Ignoring this critical issue is irresponsible. It's time for debate moderators to ask direct, clear questions so we can get direct, clear answers.

Next Tuesday night, Marc Lacey from the New York Times and CNN hosts Erin Burnett and Anderson Cooper will moderate the Democratic debate. Click here to send a message and tell them to #AskAboutAbortion, or click the links above to tweet directly at the moderators.

We can't let the moderators turn a blind eye while our health and rights are under attack. Thank you for speaking out.
Sincerely,
Alexis McGill Johnson, Acting President
