John,

Emperor penguin colonies are declining or vanishing in Antarctica where sea ice is melting and breaking up early due to climate change. Will you speak up for these beloved birds? [link removed]

Emperor penguins require reliable sea ice for breeding and raising their chicks. But climate change is melting their Antarctic habitat, causing mass deaths and driving the species toward extinction. Vanishing sea ice and industrial fisheries have also diminished the availability of krill — a key food source for penguins.

The emperor penguin colony featured in 2005's March of the Penguins has plummeted to only about half its former size. Scientists project that without strong action to combat climate change, 80% of all emperor penguins will be gone by the century's end.

These beloved birds urgently need legal protections and rapid cuts in carbon pollution if they're going to have a future.

In response to our petition and lawsuit, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is now deciding whether to give emperor penguins protections under the Endangered Species Act.

Tell the Service to give these icons of wild Antarctica the full protections they deserve: [link removed]
