Yesterday at the Tiger Bay Club in Tampa, I laughed as a man tried to tell a room full of hundreds of women why the Constitution should not include them and expressly grant them equality under the law.

Simply put, the ERA reads:

“Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.”

At one point, he tried to use Veterans as a made-up wedge issue. I countered, asking why female shipmates of mine, sailors who stood alongside me on missions overseas, should receive anything different than men should they need it... He didn't have an answer.

There is no answer. The time has come to pass the ERA now. Florida can and should be the 38th and final state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. But, our Legislature refuses to act.

I'm asking you help me make sure these legislators pay a political price for opposing equality. Join me and let's replace these holdouts on equality. I'll make sure we pass the ERA and support equality for all Floridians.
