Friends, we have come so far. 

Last week, President Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law, making Juneteenth a federal holiday. 

It is no surprise that this comes in the same year the Congressional Black Caucus celebrates not only our 50th anniversary, but our largest class to date. 

We’re making noticeable strides in the fight for liberation for marginalized communities across the country, but we can’t stop now. 

We still have to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, we still need to address climate justice and the effects of climate change on Black and brown communities, and we still need to reform our broken criminal justice system.

I am committed to uplifting and empowering our immigrant and Black communities across the country and advocating for marginalized peoples across the globe — that’s why I co-founded the House Haiti Caucus and serve as the founding co-chair of the Congressional Caribbean Caucus. 

We have the momentum, but we have to keep this going to show those in power, we will not stop our fight for justice. We’ve accomplished so much, but I’m still fighting every day to push the Biden Administration and my House colleagues closer to true liberation.
