Help communities adapt to the changing climate
Dear Friend,
Climate change is the ultimate threat-multiplier:
When drought or floods destroy crops, agriculture-reliant people
either go hungry or must move.
When competition for increasingly scarce resources like water creates
violent conflict.
As more frequent and severe natural disasters like hurricanes destroy
entire communities.
I’m proud of our exceptional Mercy Corps team members, working within
their communities around the world to develop long-term strategies that
help people thrive in the changing climate — and supporters like you are a
vital part of our lifesaving work.
As Adrienne stated in her email below, Mercy Corps’ 2021 fiscal year is
ending, and now is the time to help us start our fiscal 2022 year off
strong. [ [link removed] ]Please help us reach our goal of welcoming 100

Dear Friend,
Farming is what Adamu has known all his life. He lives in Nigeria, where
he came from a family of farmers, and now farms to support his own family.
[ Adamu ]Adamu in Nigeria
In Nigeria, Mercy Corps provided Adamu with training in climate resilient
agriculture.
But climate change is threatening his livelihood. Over the years, the
timing for the rainy season has become more unpredictable making it
difficult for farmers like Adamu to know when to start planting.
Adamu participated in a Mercy Corps training on climate resilient farming
methods, and received supplies like higher quality seeds, crop protection
products, and organic fertilizers. Since he began applying the new methods
he learned, his harvest yield has significantly increased. "Before I used
to have spaces in my harvest but now every inch of my farmland is covered
with crops," he says.
There are an estimated 2.5 billion smallholder farmers, herders, and
fisherfolk around the world who depend on the climate and natural
resources for food and income. Increasingly unpredictable weather
patterns, shifting seasons, and natural disasters disproportionately
threaten these populations, endangering their livelihoods and increasing
their risk of poverty and hunger.
That’s why we’re working with communities most affected by climate change
to build long-term solutions that help people adapt and thrive.
We’ve set a goal to welcome 100 new monthly givers by
our fiscal year end fundraising deadline on June 28, to provide the steady
support needed for this and other life changing work. [ [link removed] ]Will you help
with a monthly gift today?
As we reach the end of this 2021 fiscal year, we want to move into the
next year well positioned to respond to the climate crisis and other
challenges that lie ahead. Your support, in partnership with the support
of other Mercy Corps donors, will allow us to fund programs where we know
the need is greatest, and to be prepared to respond to unforeseen
emergencies. That’s why this fundraising goal is so important:
[ [link removed] ]Please make your first monthly gift today and help
us reach our goal of welcoming 100 new monthly givers by June 28.

Thank you for partnering with Mercy Corps to create a future where
everyone can prosper.
