National Domestic Workers Alliance

============================

John — today, Senators Bernie Sanders and Ed Markey, and Representatives Pramila Jayapal and Chuy Garcia joined thousands of workers, climate justice, housing, healthcare, and immigrant activists for a march and rally in Washington D.C. to raise awareness of the urgent needs of immigrants and essential workers .

An inclusive and equitable jobs and economic recovery plan must include an investment in our care infrastructure to support the care workforce and it must ensure security and dignity for the millions of immigrant essential workers, including domestic workers, who keep our country running.

John, add your voice and take action today! Tell Congress they need to ACT NOW, BE BOLD, and pass recovery that works for ALL OF US because #WeCantWait.

Care workers, including domestic workers, are essential to our economy and society and make all other work possible.

While we applaud the inclusion of a pathway to citizenship for essential workers, TPS holders and DACA recipients and a $400 billion investment to expand Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) in the reconciliation budget proposal, we must urge Congress to not wait and show their support now.

A $400 billion investment in Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) will create and improve over one million jobs — a transformational change that would allow seniors and people with disabilities to live with dignity in their homes — and will deliver economic security to care workers who are overwhelmingly women of color and immigrants.

Given that 1 in 5 domestic workers are undocumented immigrants , a pathway to citizenship would be a critical component to our collective recovery. Citizenship would provide immigrant domestic workers with the security to ensure their rights are respected, they are paid fairly, and have meaningful access to justice if they face labor abuses that are all too common in this sector. It makes it possible for domestic workers and other essential workers who keep us safe to keep themselves safe, have access to relief, and be full participants in our economic recovery.

Join us today to urge Congress to make care the center of just economic recovery and to include a pathway to citizenship for essential workers - including nannies, housecleaners, and home care workers - now! [[link removed]]

Sincerely,

Mariana Viturro, Deputy Director

The majority of domestic workers sit at the center of some of our nation’s most decisive issues because of who they are and what they do: they are women – mostly women of color, immigrants, mothers, and low-wage workers. They are impacted by almost every policy affecting the future of our economy, democracy and country.

Domestic workers can lead us toward a new, inclusive vision for the future for all of us -- and your grassroots support is the fuel that can get us there.
