John,
Today we want to amplify an important call for reproductive rights and freedom — by none other than Britney Spears. Yesterday, she bravely spoke out about her abusive conservatorship that has legally removed her right to make health care decisions for herself:
"I want to be able to get married and have a baby. I was told I'm not able to get married… I have an IUD inside me so I won't get pregnant, but this so-called team won't let me go to the doctor to take it out."
"I deserve to have the same rights as anyone does by having a child and a family. Any of those things."
We at Women's March could not agree more. Every person, regardless of physical or mental ability, deserves to be able to make their own choices. For their bodies, for their health, for their lives. We are with Britney — and ALL women escaping abusive and controlling situations.
We at Women's March believe in this simple but powerful truth: Reproductive rights are human rights. And we're asking every person reading this to sign on to our petition if you agree: Every person should have reproductive autonomy over their own bodies.
Britney Spears's situation is a microcosm of what could happen if we allow men who want to control women's bodies the opportunity to gain power. Even the slightest increase in their financial or political fortunes could help them get away with their anti-woman agenda.
We’ve been sounding the alarm for weeks about the controlling and regressive attacks by the GOP on our reproductive rights and freedoms. If we don't want to be in court — as Britney is now — fighting for the right to remove unwanted birth control or to be allowed to make other decisions about our bodies, we need to act now.
Thanks in advance for signing on, and #FreeBritney!
