Friend — the House of Representatives is voting this week on whether to overturn a Trump rule that effectively freed oil and gas companies from requirements to reduce dangerous methane pollution.

This House vote is the final step — the Senate has already voted to reverse Trump's attack on these clean air and climate safeguards. This is a huge step in the climate fight, but it could all come crashing to a halt if we don't win in the House.

Corporate polluters only need to flip a few votes in the House to save Trump's dirty air rule — and they are leaning hard on vulnerable Democrats.

This vote is hugely important. Methane is an incredibly potent greenhouse gas — many times more damaging than carbon dioxide. Official reports show 2020 saw the highest annual increase in methane levels on record.

Methane is responsible for 25 percent of the climate change we are experiencing today. The Senate vote paves the way for the EPA to move forward with widely supported, sensible safeguards for methane and other air pollution from oil and gas production that will help dismantle environmental racism and improve public health, in addition to fighting climate change.

Earlier in May, the Senate voted 52-48 to get rid of the Trump administration's dangerous rule that gave the oil and gas industry a free pass to dump methane pollution into our air, jeopardizing our health and the climate. The vote passed under the Congressional Review Act — a law allowing Congress to eliminate rules implemented at the end of a presidential administration using a simple majority vote.
