John,
Michigan has been at the forefront of advancing civil rights for LGBTQ+ people beginning with the nation’s first non-discrimination ordinance passed in 1972 in East Lansing.
Members of our LGBTQ+ community deserve full protection under the law so they can live their authentic lives, and we’re working hard in Michigan to get that done. But at the Federal level, the Senate can pass the Equality Act to prohibit discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation and gender identity.
While the Equality Act was passed by the House earlier this year, the Senate has still yet to act. Once passed, President Biden is ready to sign the legislation into law. That’s why I’m asking you to sign on to my petition to tell the Senate to get it done this year.
Will you add your name to my petition to tell the Senate to pass the Equality Act? I’m aiming to get 5,000 signatures before the day ends.
Thank you,
Governor Whitmer
