Friend --
This morning the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance the nomination of David Chipman to be Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in a "Motion to Discharge." The Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) will continue to strongly oppose this nomination. Even by Washington D.C. standards, Chipman’s nomination is divisive and extreme. Now the fight moves to the full U.S. Senate, where Chipman must be defeated. FPC needs you to contact your Senators TODAY!
Chipman has a long history of activism against the Second Amendment and the fundamental rights of American gun owners. It is clear that Chipman will take an agency that has a built-in gun control agenda and further politicize it from the top down. Through years of anti-gun activism, Chipman has made his prohibitionist views very plain, including sweeping bans on nearly every kind of modern magazine-fed, semi-automatic firearm in common usage. During his May 26 Senate hearings, Chipman voiced support for banning “assault weapons” despite his inability in the hearing to define what exactly an “assault weapon” was.
The Senate floor vote for Chipman will be a test for many Senators who profess to support the fundamental right to keep and bear arms. The margin for victory or defeat on Chipman's Senate floor vote will be razor thin. The people need to raise their voices and make their objections heard with their Senators NOW!
Even if you have already emailed or called, we need to keep the inboxes and phone lines live on this issue. Share FightChipman.com with your pro-gun family and friends as well as on social media. You can forward this email as well!
Remember, the "gun lobby" is YOU. Let them hear us loud and clear! You can always learn more about how to get involved by contacting me at [email protected]. FPC is always eager to connect with local activists.
