In a nation where millions of Americans can still be fired for being gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or queer, coming out still represents a substantial risk.
Today, someone in your workplace, your neighborhood, or your family may come out to you for the first time. In that moment, they'll be filled with a range of emotions -- from joy to fear -- and they'll be counting on you for love and acceptance.
However, it's not enough only to hold close the LGBTQ+ people in our own lives. In a week where the Supreme Court is considering the question of whether employers can legally discriminate against LGBTQ+ Americans, we have a duty to act.
It's time for federal legislation to end discrimination against LGBTQ+ Americans. Show you're standing with me by adding your name.

This week, the Supreme Court is considering the question of whether Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 covers discrimination against LGBTQ+ Americans.
We don't have to wait for their decision -- we can pass a federal law that explicitly bans discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity immediately. That's why I co-sponsored the Equality Act, and have asked my colleagues to join me in taking action.
The House has already passed this critical piece of legislation, and now we need to build support in the Senate.
By showing your support for the Equality Act, you can help provide the momentum to ensure that LGBTQ+ Americans no longer face the threat of being fired for coming out and living as they are.
