The LGBTQ+ community is a vibrant, diverse, and endlessly unique community that I am proud to be a part of.
But we have to fight every day for visibility and representation to make our voices heard.
That’s why today, on National Coming Out Day, I wanted to celebrate the bravery of everyone who has come out as LGBTQ+. It’s not an easy thing to do, but it’s an important way we can raise visibility and further our fight for equality.
Members of the LGBTQ+ community face discrimination, prejudice, and in too many cases, physical violence, in their day-to-day lives. That’s why legislation like the Equality Act, which is awaiting a vote in the Senate, is so crucial to ensure equal justice under the law for all Americans.
I won’t stop fighting for our community, and I know you’re standing shoulder to shoulder and hand in hand with our LGBTQ+ siblings as we pursue equality.
If you’re looking for another way to be an ally to the LGBTQ+ community, check out Transformations KC [[link removed]] – they are doing amazing work to support trans and gender non-conforming young people in Kansas City. You can learn about the resources they provide here [[link removed]] , and if you’re able, send a donation their way. [[link removed]]
Thanks for being with me today and always – it means the world to me.
