OVERLOOKED AND FORGOTTEN:
A Human Rights Perspective on the Conflict-Affected Population in Eastern Ukraine
Monday, June 28, 2021
1:00 - 2:30 p.m. ET
via Zoom
Recent military escalation in Donetsk and Luhansk has renewed Western attention to the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine. However, a group of people have largely been overlooked – the conflict-affected civilian population in the east. This population, which has faced acute human rights challenges ever since parts of eastern Ukraine were taken by Russian-backed separatists in 2014, now face additional challenges due to the pandemic. In this discussion, we ask: What is the human rights situation like for the conflict-affected population living under both a simmering armed conflict and a raging global pandemic? And what should be done?
On June 28, we invite you to join Freedom House’s Director for Europe and Eurasia Programs Marc Behrendt in conversation with journalist Nikolaus von Twickel and Freedom House partners Oleksandra Dvoretska of VostokSOS and Roman Avramenko of Truth Hounds as they discuss this timely and important topic.
