John — New brutal footage has been released of D.C. Metropolitan Police Officer, Michael Fanone who bravely risked his life to defend the Capitol building on January 6. This morning Rep. Kinzinger and I sat down with Officer Fanone for an interview with CBS.

Officer Fanone shared some powerful words in his interview, so, John, I wanted to make sure you saw this:

Six months after the insurrection on our nation’s capital, Officer Fanone is still dealing with the trauma and emotional scars of that day. The brave men and women who protected the lives of myself and the rest of Congress on January 6 deserve to be honored for their actions.

It’s infuriating to hear my Republican counterparts diminish the events from that day, so let me be clear: what happened on January 6 was a domestic terrorist attack on the Capitol — not a “normal tourist visit.”

The officers who defended us on January 6 are heroes, and to hear that they feel they have been abandoned crushes me. These men and women deserve to be honored and they deserve justice.

Senate Republicans blocked our proposal for a 9/11-style commission to investigate the January 6 insurrection, but that doesn’t mean our work is done. I won’t stop fighting until we have an independent, bipartisan commission to investigate the day’s events and give all of us — especially the brave officers who protected us — the answers we are all looking for.
