Meeting and hearing the stories of New Yorkers in every corner of Manhattan has been the honor of my life. With your support, we ran a campaign that elevated the voices of our most marginalized communities. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for every door you knocked on, for every phone call you made, for every dollar you gave to make that work possible.
I won’t be the next Manhattan Borough President. But our work is far from done. As we emerge from this pandemic, it is our collective responsibility to ensure no one is left behind in our city’s recovery. There are countless ways to contribute — from supporting the organizers who are doing the work on the ground to placing pressure on our elected officials to do the right thing.
We have countless challenges before us, but I absolutely believe we can meet this moment, and can make all that is magic about Manhattan accessible to everyone. We can re-build our businesses, make our streets and sidewalks safer for bicyclists and pedestrians, plan for true climate resiliency, expand our green space, end homelessness, and ensure true public safety by meaningfully investing in our communities. And we can and must take on all those challenges through the lens of racial, gender, disability, and socio-economic justice.
I came to New York with a dream to become an urban planner like Jane Jacobs, and later found myself challenging the abject abuse of power by the most powerful man in the state. I look forward to continuing to fight the fights that need to be fought to serve the people of New York. I know you’ll continue that journey with me.
