Friend,

When Donald Trump lost the 2020 election, he didn't graciously accept the outcome as Democratic and Republican contenders have for hundreds of years.

Instead, he launched what's come to be known as the Big Lie -- the false notion that the 2020 election was "stolen" from him because of rampant voter fraud through mail-in ballots. How much evidence is there to support this claim? Zero.

But since then, Trump's Republican foot soldiers in state legislatures across the country have been using the Big Lie as cover for passing restrictive voting laws that make it harder for people, and especially people of color, to vote.

I won't stand for it, and I know you won't either. Take one moment right now to send a message with me: These Republican attacks on our democracy are an absolute disgrace, and we should be making it easier for people to vote -- not harder.

Our democracy is stronger when more people vote -- and I’m proud that our state had one of the highest turnout rates in the nation last year (75%). That’s in part because we make it easy. You’ll never see a line out the door to vote here. No one waits in the rain, the cold, or the heat to fill out a ballot. We mail a ballot to every voter, and we even cover the postage so they can mail it back free of charge.

And let’s be clear: Making it easier for people to vote isn’t just for blue states. Our friends down in the red state of Utah have made it incredibly easy for citizens there to vote, too.

But in some states -- Georgia, Texas, and Arizona, to name a few -- Republicans are pulling out all the stops to prevent more people from voting. Any day now, the Supreme Court is going to rule on Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee, a crucial voting rights case that will decide the constitutionality of Arizona’s new voting law, which makes it a felony -- a felony! -- for anyone other than a family member, a caregiver, or a postal worker to drop off someone’s mail ballot. If it is ruled constitutional, the consequences will reverberate throughout the nation.

Let’s raise our voices right now to say that no matter where you live, voting should be just as easy as it is in Washington state. Add your name if you agree!

Very truly yours,

Jay
