GOVERNOR POLIS SIGNS COLORADO CHILD TAX CREDIT INTO LAW

Ark Valley Voice

In Colorado, it is estimated that the expanded federal Child Care Tax Credit will lift 57,000 kids out of poverty and benefit more than 1 million children across the state. Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet championed the Child Tax Credit in Congress.

The Polis administration has doubled the state Earned Income Tax Credit from 10 percent to 20 percent. This means that under the state child tax credit, for the first time an estimated 155,000 Colorado families with young children will now be able to claim a refundable state Child Tax Credit of up to $1,080 per child for children under age 6 and depending on income level.

Remember -- Colorado Republicans like Lauren Boebert, Ken Buck, and Doug Lamborn all voted 'No' to helping Colorado families.

Meanwhile, all of Colorado's Democratic members of the Congressional delegation voted 'Yes'!

Michael Bennet helps drum up attention to expanded child tax credit

Colorado Politics

U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet was among those leading the charge Monday to increase awareness about the expanded child tax credit, a program the Colorado Democrat wrote and helped pass this year that starts delivering payments directly to families next month.

The expanded credit increases the existing $2,000-per-child tax credit to $3,600 for children under six and $3,000 for children through age 17. It also makes the benefit fully refundable, meaning parents can get the payment even if they don't make enough to pay taxes.

How Colorado lawmakers changed policing in their first full session since George Floyd protests

The Denver Post

In their first full legislative session since mass protests over police brutality, Colorado lawmakers passed bills to regulate use of force, expand alternatives to policing and make police actions and discipline more transparent to the public.

There was no sweeping reform bill similar to the one passed in June 2020, but lawmakers, law enforcement and advocacy groups worked to build upon those changes in the six of 10 bills about policing that cleared the Statehouse.

Included in the bipartisan legislation that’s now circulating among lawmakers is a provision that would create an Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health, or ARPA-H, and authorize the more than $6.5 billion the White House says it needs to run the agency.

Supreme Court dismisses challenge to the Affordable Care Act

KDVR

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser released the following statement regarding today’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling in the Affordable Care Act case California v. Texas:

“Once again, the U.S. Supreme Court has kept the Affordable Care Act in place. The first action I took as Colorado attorney general was to join with other states in defending the ACA in this case. I did so because, time and time again, Coloradans throughout the state have shared with me their concerns about having access to affordable healthcare. Despite repeated attacks, we can now celebrate that the ACA is still the law of the land."

Former Colorado GOP Chair Ryan Call is in serious legal trouble for allegedly stealing nearly $280,000 from pro-Trump super PAC Rebuilding America Now while he was treasurer of the organization from 2016 to 2019. Despite the fact that one complainant, Cleta Mitchell, is a fervent election fraud conspiracist, her allegations are serious enough for the state Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel (OARC) to decide to move forward with a complaint following its own investigation.
