Hey team,
Since Beto O'Rourke came within 2 points of defeating Ted Cruz in 2018, he's been a vocal champion of voting rights in Texas and across the country. At a rally at the Texas Capitol recently, his message to radical Republicans trying to pass new restrictive voter suppression laws was simple: “Don't mess with Texas voters.”
Governor Greg Abbott has been more than messing with Texas voters -- frankly, he has blood on his hands. Over 52,000 of his constituents died while Abbott said there was “no reason to be alarmed” at skyrocketing COVID rates. Then as many as 700 Texans were killed earlier this year as a result of a deadly winter storm, mostly due to Abbott's refusal to prepare for such an emergency.
The death toll will only keep rising as he drums up his extremist right-wing supporters. Abbott just signed a bill allowing people in Texas to carry handguns without a license or a background check -- just two years after a white supremacist shot and killed 23 people in a Texas Walmart.
We need to defeat Abbott this cycle, team -- and Beto O'Rourke is the right person to do it. But we're going to need you and every progressive in the country with us if we're going to flip Texas blue.
Republicans saw what Democrats accomplished in Georgia and launched a nationwide voter suppression campaign to rig the system in their favor. So this cycle, we're going to redouble our efforts in states targeted by voter suppression, like Texas. It may be our last shot to save democracy in these states.
