As states across the country have been making meaningful progress in combating the gun violence crisis, these state laws are undermined by neighboring states that do not have the same common sense laws in place. This is why we need federal legislation to ensure that dangerous loopholes are closed in every state. Unfortunately, even the most common sense, bipartisan laws are stalled in the Senate by a handful of Republican senators who ignore the wishes of their constituents. Eliminating the filibuster would allow life-saving legislation to advance through the Senate and become law. 

We saw the damage to our democracy yesterday when a minority of senators weaponized the filibuster to prevent the Senate from even starting a debate on legislation protecting Americans’ right to vote; the only thing that stood in the way was the outdated and abused filibuster.

We stand with Fix Our Senate and millions of advocates and activists to make our voices heard and make it clear that we agree with Leader Schumer that ‘failure is not an option.’ And we’re not going to stop until the filibuster is eliminated as Sen. McConnell’s weapon of partisan obstruction.
