John --
We need Stacey Abrams in elected office. She is one of the best leaders and communicators we have when it comes to the threats facing the core of American democracy right now. Here is what she said during a recent interview:
“The reality is, when you break democracy for anyone, you break it for everyone. … We're seeing a subversion of democracy.”
The clarity and simplicity of what Stacey Abrams is telling us here is the kind of unifying force that can win elections and heal our nation.
And let's be clear -- the threat to our country from Republican voter fraud conspiracies and voter suppression laws is existential. Despite zero evidence of any kind of widespread voter fraud occurring anywhere in the US during the 2020 elections, Republicans are using those claims to push new laws that will allow them to rule with minority support for years to come -- maybe indefinitely.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp is leading the way with new, dangerous voting restrictions -- and we know why. Stacey Abrams herself is likely to challenge Kemp for the governorship in 2022. Kemp stole the election in 2018 by using dirty suppression tactics, and he's planning to double down in 2022 to defeat her once again.
Georgia is vital to any political strategy Democrats will have in the near future, both in the Senate and the White House. We cannot afford to hand the keys to Georgia's election systems over to Brian Kemp again in 2022.
