John —

Last night, Mitch McConnell was able to block the most important voting rights and anti-corruption bill in decades. Why? Because of a relic of the Jim Crow era – the filibuster.

Democrats voted unanimously to push forward and debate the For the People Act on the Senate floor. A bill that would halt the dangerous voter suppression laws being pushed and passed by Republicans in 48 states across the country.

So it’s no wonder the GOP filibustered it. Killing the bill before it was even allowed to be debated. Let me repeat: they wouldn’t even allow it to be debated.

McConnell knows that with two-thirds of the American people supporting clean and fair elections, Republicans don’t stand a chance of winning a debate — and with the filibuster, they don’t have to . That’s not democratic. That's minority rule. And that’s dangerous.

You didn’t work so hard in the midterms to allow Mitch McConnell to rule the Senate from the minority. You fought for change. For health care. For our environment. For better lives for Americans struggling across the country. And most importantly, for our democracy to survive.

It’s never been more clear that we need to abolish the filibuster in order to enact the change we seek and need to save our democracy.

Pitch in right now to help fuel our fight to pressure Senate Democrats to abolish the filibuster. It’s the only way we will be able to make progress and protect our democracy: [[link removed]]

The few Democrats still protecting the filibuster claim that it’s a bipartisan tool in place to ensure all voices are heard in a debate of ideas.

Sure, that was a great plot for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington . But here’s the reality: We don’t have two functioning parties right now.

We have the Democratic Party: A party fighting to expand voting rights, making it easier to vote, and getting dark money out of our elections. A party fighting to ensure a more just economic system that doesn’t favor the rich, but allows everyone to get ahead. A party that stood up for democracy when an authoritarian president tried to destroy it.

Then we have the Republican Party: A party of insurrection. A party of greater allegiance to a man in Mar-a-Lago than to our Constitution. A party subservient to the wealthy. An anti-democratic cult, hell bent on pushing the Big Lie, and undermining our system of checks and balances for the sake of power.

If we want to make any real progress – it won’t be by giving in to Senate Republicans. If they can’t summon the courage to investigate a bloody attack on our Capitol, curtail voter suppression, or root out dark money corruption in our politics, how much common ground can there be?

Right now Democrats have the majority in the House, Senate, and hold the White House. And we must act boldly to avoid the devastating midterm losses of 2010 and 2014 that paved the way for partisan gridlock and Donald Trump. If we want any real progress to be made, we must abolish the filibuster. Or watch our democracy slip away.

So I’m humbly asking: Will you pitch in right now to help us pressure Democrats in the Senate to abolish the filibuster and end Mitch McConnell's minority rule?

We need to act. It’s what the American people voted for in November. Especially in the face of the dangerous anti-democratic attacks Republicans are waging on our democracy.

It’s up to us to get this done.
