Yesterday you got an email from my team with some big numbers that represent our big wins this year. It's something to be proud of, and I hope you are too.

But I also want you to know that behind each number is a person's life and a powerful story.

The work we do — the work your support makes possible — is giving people the chance to control their own futures, and as a result, to imagine the possibilities for their lives.

I'll give you an example.

One day last year, I met a young woman at a Planned Parenthood health center in a Los Angeles high school. I attended a Q&A between students and nurses, and at the end of it, I witnessed an empowering scene unfold in real time.

The young woman asked a question she couldn't ask her mom. The Planned Parenthood nurse not only answered with no judgment, she added that state law protected the young woman's privacy; her parents would never need to know what she'd asked. "Oh and by the way," the nurse said, "the services provided would be free."

I saw something magical happen when that young woman realized she had agency — the power to make decisions about her body and her life, with accurate information, with no shame or stigma. She was getting the tools to imagine a future she dreamed for herself.

I think you know that the battles we're fighting this year will be difficult. Attacks on sexual and reproductive health will keep coming — and that's by design. In the courts and in state legislatures, there is a coordinated strategy to roll back reproductive freedom.

But make no mistake: there is power in our numbers, power in our stories. And we are going to use every bit of that power to fight back.
