This week, the Montana Free Press wrote a story about how Montanans are going to be in for a rude awakening as new rules and regulations passed through the state legislature and signed by Governor Gianforte begin to take effect.
One of the most notable changes local officials will need to contend with is the HB 121 law which states that any rules or regulations changes proposed by local health officers or health boards must be approved by an elected body. These new rules are not just a clear sign that a “conservative” legislature is hell-bent on yanking power away from localities, but it also sends a message that local officials are incompetent or cannot be trusted.
This overreach by a majority that professes to oppose such “big government” puts Montana GOP hypocrisy on full display.
