Dear Friend,
Once again, it's been a busy couple of weeks back in Parliament, challenging the Government and standing up for you after the overturning of the unlawful decision to prorogue Parliament.
Below is a brief selection of some of the things I have been doing in the last couple of weeks, both in Parliament and around the constituency.
As ever, if you would like to get in touch with me please contact [email protected] or phone 02920 624440

My PMQ: Protecting Access to Vital Medicines
I asked the Prime Minister to speak up for Cardiff North constituent Anne, who is concerned about her access to life-saving medicine in the event of a No Deal Brexit. Anne needs 20 tablets a day to control the pain caused by her condition and without access to these tablets she could die. She has been warned that a No Deal Brexit will severely risk its supply. Unfortunately Anne is one of many constituents who have contacted me about their concerns over their access to vital medicines.
Anne and the people suffering similar anxiety about their access to medicines are falling victim to the Prime Minister's policy of ruin over delay.
It is a shame that the Prime Minister was too busy at Tory Party conference to answer the question on my constituents' behalf.

I joined Wales for Europe at their National March and Rally on Saturday 28th September alongside fellow Cardiff MPs Stephen Doughty and Jo Stevens.
Hundreds joined us on the day to march through the city centre.
I marched for an open, inclusive and internationalist society, not one of division and damaging populism. The best deal available is the one we already have as full members of the EU. That's why I will continue to do all I can to put Brexit back to the people for you to have the final say.
You can see a breakdown of the event on Wales Online here.

Cardiff for Europe and Wales for Europe will also be joining the People's Vote 'Let Us be Heard' March on the 19th October in Westminster.
I'll be joining the march in between sitting in Parliament on the day!
The march promises to be the biggest and best yet as we get closer towards the October 31st Brexit deadline.
If any spaces are remaining, you can book on to coaches travelling to the march here.

Sky News: We Need a Public Vote
I reiterated on Sky News this week that the Government's Brexit deal and its consistent threats of No Deal will put my constituents' livelihoods in Cardiff North at risk. That's unacceptable. Boris Johnson continues to bring forward unworkable solutions to the Brexit negotiations, which are not supported by either the EU or the majority of Parliament.
The only democratic way forward is to put it back to the people for a public vote.

We Must Move Faster Towards Net Zero
I intervened in the Westminster Hall debate on Net Zero carbon emissions. The Government are doing nowhere near enough on retrofitting homes and ensuring new-builds meet high sustainability standards. I am working hard across the constituency to ensure that all new building developments in Cardiff North are built with the environment in mind.
These are the home-based solutions we need to see if we are going to seriously tackle the climate emergency.

Denouncing Turkey's Northern Syria Offensive
I'm deeply concerned by the escalating situation developing with the Turkish offensive on Northern Syria.
Trump's betrayal of the Kurdish people is one of the worst. We need meaningful action from the international community.

Meeting Extinction Rebellion Protesters in Westminster
We must resolve Brexit, but this should not stop us from seeing the greater threat we all face at the hands of the climate emergency. Cardiff Extinction Rebellion and many other peaceful protesters are keeping the climate crisis at the top of the agenda. Business as usual simply cannot go on.
I also joined the Extinction Rebellion activists at their forest of 1000 trees opposite Parliament. I've brought mine back to Cardiff for planting!

1950's Women High Court Defeat
I was disappointed that the brave and unfairly treated 1950's women lost their judicial review in the High Court.
The pensions injustice for 1950's women continues and I will continue to support their fight.

Pledging for Better Politics
I signed the More United and Compassion in Politics pledge for better politics.
The unacceptable tone and language used in public debate sows further division in society. It encourages hate and worse, violence. Parliament should be the standard-bearer for tolerant, mindful and respectful debate.
We can and must do better than this.

Tackling Loneliness Event
I'm looking forward to the Tackling Loneliness event taking place tomorrow with Baroness Anita Gale and Julie Morgan AM.
We will discuss how we can work together to help tackle social isolation. Lots of great organisations will be joining us to give advice, share experiences and provide information on their services.
The event will take place between 10:30am - 1pm at St Isan Church Hall in Llanishen. All are welcome.

Campaign to Bring nextbikes to Llandaf Station
I'm working with local Labour Llandaff North Councillors Dilwar Ali and Jennifer Burke-Davies to secure a nextbike station at Llandaf Station. It is vital that we make sure that people are able to use sustainable forms of transport. It makes sense to have bikes to use as people get off and onto the trains.
We are speaking to Network Rail, Transport for Wales and Cardiff Council to get this in place as soon as possible.
Please let me know if there are any other areas in Cardiff North that you think may benefit from a nextbike station.

Meeting British Kashmiris in Cardiff North
I met with my constituents who are British Kashmiri to talk about the people of Kashmir, whose human rights are being seriously abused and their humantiarian needs neglected.
My constituents' families, alongside millions of Kashmiri people are living under siege, on lockdown and in an open prison in one of the most militarised zones in the world. they spoke of their anguish as they are unable to contact loved ones in the region, fearing for their safety as their basic right to freedom is stripped away.
The human rights concerns make this an international issue and the UK has a historic and moral obligatio to help. Millions of Kashmiris are depending on international intervention to restore their freedom and right to self-determination and I will do all I can to support this.

Usdaw Save our Shops Campaign
Marc Palmer, Julie Morgan AM and I joined Usdaw Union on Whitchurch high street to support their Save our Shops campaign. The campaign, which supports our valued local businesses and retail workers on our high streets, was a great success.
We're calling for government action to level the playing field between online and high street retailing in order to save our shops!

Tackling Homelessness with Llamau
It was great to catch up with Llamau to discuss local projects they are running in Cardiff North and their efforts to end youth homelessness in Wales and across the UK.
They highlighted that early intervention is crucial to prevent young people falling into homelessness. I'm looking forward to continuing to work with Llamua.

Many EU citizens living in Cardiff North have contacted me about the EU Settlement Scheme as they are worried about applying and for the future of their families.
Citizens Advice Cardiff and Vale have launched their new advice service for European Citizens, providing information and guidance on settled status applications.
You can visit their website here for more information, or you can call to make an appointment with an adviser. Alternatively you can get in touch with me on [email protected]

March With Orb Steel Workers This Saturday
Tomorrow join workers and supporters as they march from Gilligan's Island at 12:30 to the Westgate Chartist Memorial. I support the workers and have written to the Government alongside a number of Welsh MPs, urging them to support the steelworks to remain open.

As always, please get in touch with your feedback!
