Join us for an online event launching new research mapping UK-backed crimes in Yemen.
You may remember that back in December 2019, CAAT supported a case brought by the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) to the International Criminal Court in The Hague, asking them to investigate European government and arms company officials for potentially aiding and abetting war crimes in Yemen.
A brand new Chief Prosecutor is currently weighing up the case, and a response is expected some time after the summer. In the meantime, ECCHR and Forensic Architecture have created an online resource mapping attacks by the Coalition against civilians and civilian infrastructure in Yemen. Their work tears apart the UK government's claims that violations of international humanitarian law by the Saudi coalition in Yemen were 'isolated incidents'.
Using extensive field research and legal analysis, the new research aims to support legal investigation into the criminal responsibilities of actors such as the UK government, who are arming the crimes in Yemen. The UK has provided at least £18.9 billion worth of arms to Saudi Arabia since the start of the war on Yemen six years ago, in spite of Coalition bombings targeting schools, hospitals and food supplies.
