People For Member,
Last night, the Senate held a procedural vote to move the For the People Act (S. 1) on to the floor for debate – a critical step in this groundbreaking legislation’s path to being passed. Every Democrat in the Senate voted to move the For the People Act forward, but the Republicans, led by Minority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked that effort through a filibuster.
Without changing the filibuster rule, which right now requires 60 votes to pass any bill, the For the People Act cannot be passed. We’re taking action to raise awareness of what’s at stake if the Senate does not prevent the filibuster from blocking needed legislation.
Here are three things you can do to take action to BUST the filibuster:

- RSVP now for virtual teach-ins, taking place TOMORROW and hosted by our Declaration for American Democracy coalition, on how the filibuster is harming everything from our environment to our civil rights! >>

In the wake of this week’s Senate vote, it’s critical that we demonstrate the overwhelming objection to the filibuster and support for the For the People Act, which would protect our freedom to vote, ensure fair representation in government, and end the dominance of big money in politics.
We are at a pivotal moment for our democratic rights. The filibuster has been repeatedly used to stifle the will of The People – please help us tell the Senate: “Not again.”
