Friend,
Amid all the activity around the 50th anniversary of the war on drugs last week, I want to make sure you didn’t miss the exciting news: the Drug Policy Reform Act was officially introduced in Congress on June 17.
It’s the first-ever bill that would decriminalize drugs at the federal level. Please take action and tell your members of Congress to support it.

The Drug Policy Reform Act will end criminal penalties for drug possession at the federal level and invest in alternative health-centered approaches. It would also expunge records and provide for resentencing, eliminate life-long consequences associated with drug arrests and convictions, and incentivize states to adopt similar decriminalization policies.
DPA developed this bill alongside sponsors Representatives Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ) and Cori Bush (D-MO) to begin dismantling 50 years of the failed drug war and repairing the harms which have fallen disproportionately on Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and low-income communities.
Drug possession is the most arrested offense in the country right now. Decriminalizing all drugs by ending these arrests and reinvesting drug enforcement resources into health services is the way forward.
We already did it in Oregon. Other states are following including Maine where the legislature just voted to decriminalize drugs. And now we’ve got the first-ever opportunity to decriminalize at the federal level with the Drug Policy Reform Act.
Help us take advantage of our momentum by urging Congress to support the Drug Policy Reform Act right now.

After 50 years of the failed drug war, we’ve witnessed immeasurable harm and devastation. Our fight to end it is far from over, but with your help, we’re taking steps by building widespread support for drug decriminalization.
Sincerely,
Queen Adesuyi
