John,
The Board of Elections is reporting that we are currently up by more than 8 points in first place votes.
The results aren’t final, and could still change once all absentee ballots are in and the ranked choice voting rounds are run. But this is a strong lead and we’re feeling really good about the campaign we ran.
This is a critical moment for our city. We’ve seen inequality amplified throughout the pandemic. The next few years will determine whether we begin to close gaps in health care, education, and income that were felt so deeply this year -- or continue to deepen the chasms between the many and the few.
That’s the work ahead of us, that I know we will continue to do together, regardless of whether I have the tools of the Comptroller in my toolbelt.
One thing I’m pretty sure about: This campaign probably had more grassroots support than any campaign for Comptroller, ever.
Thank you to everyone who donated, hosted a house party, or joined the peer-to-peer fundraising team. To everyone who collected petition signatures, made calls, sent texts, emailed their friends, or campaigned at poll sites.
To my amazing staff team who believed in the values of this campaign and brought them into this workplace through their organizing for their own union and for a better future for New Yorkers.
To Meg, Marek, and Rosa, for supporting me in more ways than I can say, and to my parents, who must have come to every single volunteer shift.
We expect it to take until next week or longer for the final ranked votes to be tabulated. We will keep you posted when we know more!
Thank you for everything,
Brad
