** Garbage to be collected one hour earlier, Movies in the Park postponed due to heat wave
Residents urged to take health precautions in dangerously high temperatures, humidity
------------------------------------------------------------
Due to a predicted heatwave, the Village's waste hauler, Groot Industries, will collect garbage and recycling one hour earlier the rest of this week.
Garbage and recycling collection will begin at 5 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, and Friday, July 19, instead of the regular 6 a.m. start. Residents should have their garbage and recycling out at the curb before 5 a.m. on their regular collection day. Place containers outside the night before your scheduled collection.
Excessive Heat Warning in effect
The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Chicagoland from 12 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 20. The heat index is expected to peak as high at 114 degrees each afternoon. Residents are advised to avoid strenuous activity outdoors during daytime hours, stay hydrated, learn the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke, and check up on neighbors. Do not leave children or pets unattended in vehicles for any length of time.
Cooling centers are open
Cooling centers are open throughout the area. Oswego Police Headquarters, 3355 Woolley Road, is a 24-hour cooling center. Find a complete list of cooling centers here ([link removed]) .
