Hello John,

We have some great updates to share with you this week! Victories for animals and more ways you can get more actively involved with us at Freedom for Animals.

Thank you for all you do for animals!

** Zoos could be banned from keeping elephants captive
------------------------------------------------------------
We really pleased to see the promising news that the government could be banning the keeping of elephants in UK zoos! ([link removed]) Reports surfaced in the press this weekend, when a government source commented: "It's very likely we are going to say you can't make elephants happy in zoos, we should instead be focusing on elephant conservation in areas that have elephants."

This is what we have been saying for years!

This is really exicting news but it has not been formally confirmed yet. We are investigating further and will be doing all we can to make this a
reality for elephants.

A ban like this would be unprecedented and could have positive implications for other animals too.

Breaking: Elephant dies at Noah's Ark Zoo Farm

We have just received notice that M'Changa the elephant held captive at Noah's Ark Zoo Farm in Somerset died after an incident with another elephant in his enclosure. M'Changa's tragic death once again highlights why elephants should not be in zoos, and why we must fight for their freedom.

** VICTORY: Zoo industry recovery package denied
------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks to your actions, the zoo industryโ€™s call for more funding has been denied by the government. ([link removed])

In February we penned an open letter to Boris Johnson urging him to reject calls for further covid-relief funding for the zoo and aquarium industry. We feared the funding would be used to prop-up the industry and bail out failing zoos which need shutting down.

The zoo and aquarium industry does not need saving โ€“ the animals caught up within it do!
930 people signed our letter and I am delighted to say that together we were successful in persuading the government to stand firm against this pressure from the zoo lobby!
